Ok, so I don’t usually rant about stupid things I see, but this was some sexist bullshit I saw today. My wife and I were in a Michael’s and we saw this as one of the suggested crafts. (You can’t tell but it’s a stool). Basically, they were suggesting that you needed to have a stool for girls who stand up for themselves.
I might have been alright with this if it was geared towards kids in general, but the fact that they are specifically saying “Girls” and then go on to say that they should be raised to be “Ladies” just pissed us off. Teaching girls it’s not okay to yell, scratch, basically to defend themselves is the first step to indoctrinating young woman to being okay with rape culture.
Grr. We were so upset, that we kindly put back the handfuls of merchandise we were going to buy (because it’s rude to just set stuff down anywhere) and walked out of the store. But not before snapping a pic to not only post here, but I’m going to send Michael’s a letter.
obv. that sample was made by an employee, not sent in, but you can still call 1-800-michaels and complain. tho i think the best thing that will happen is that the store manager will feel like a huge ass for accepting that stool as a sample lmao
